Love Johnnie Depp and Turquoise

I am really excited about The Lone Ranger movie. So on the evening of July 3rd, I will take a break from working at DoubleDeeDeals. I am putting on my favorite jeans,  some gorgeous Native American Turquoise Earrings like the ones you see, with a white shirt, some beautiful Turquoise beads and I will be ready for my date.

Then my honey and I will head to our local Theatre. I will be having a big tub of overpriced popcorn  and be ready to see Johnnie and Armie "...take us back to yesteryear." Though he is not a Johnnie Depp fan, my husband also loves a story about the Old West, Cowboys and Indians, truth and justice for all...oops got a little carried away. But seriously it will be very interesting to see this old story made new. I am confident that Johnnie Depp will go far in banishing stereotypes about American Indians in this film.  Armie Hammer will have an opportunity to win our hearts and make us all part of his posse. It is hard to believe that this all started with an old radio show then became a series of novels and even a comic book before this feature film.

For trivia lovers: In what other film did Johnnie Depp play the part of a Native American? Hint: it was never released in the USA. Comment with your guesses just for fun and tell me your favorite Turquoise Jewelry piece on DoubleDeeDeals.

Native American Jewelry Inspiration

The month of June is coming to a close...hard to believe I know. In honor of our nation's birthday on the 4th of July, I have just added a new banner and  coupon on www.doubledeedeals.com  for free shipping in the USA on all orders over $100.00.
Summer always goes by so quickly and could it be any more relaxing and fun, than to lay buy a pool and shop for beautiful American Indian Jewelry at www.doubledeedeals.com. If you do not have the luxury of a summer vacation by a pool, I hope you will have an opportunity to at least enjoy some fresh air and sunshine to revive your spirit and clear your mind. Native American Culture puts great value on spending time enjoying the outdoors and the Navajo and Zuni reservations have some of the most dramatic landscapes on the planet. These lands provide great inspiration for the Navajo and Zuni jewelry artists.  I will be telling you more about some of these artists soon.

Turquoise the "Sky Stone"

I have been searching for blue sky for several days since my recent return from California. Perhaps my love of blue sky is the reason I love the “sky stone”, Turquoise. In our post-modern world where everything is multiplied and mass-produced each piece of Turquoise gem stone is unique and holds that special appeal. Add to that the Native American Silversmith Artistry and you have the reason I love to go to work every day at www.doubledeedeals.com. All the different variations of color just in Turquoise are amazing,

This bracelet of Royston Turquoise with its beautiful green hue and the gorgeous blue in this White Cloud Turquoise from the Sleeping Beauty Mine in this ring ,are just a couple examples of the incredible colors in Turquoise Gem Stones. The many varieties of Turquoise and its many colors reflect our diversity and complexity as people. Is it really any wonder that Turquoise has become a cultural icon for the Southwestern United States? But I know from talking to my friends that visit www.doubledeedeals.com that the entire world has fallen in love with turquoise and the American Indian Artists that create these one of a kind pieces of wearable art. How do I know this? Because I am receiving orders from Japan, Germany, Russia and Australia just to name a few. It is thrilling to share these specially chosen pieces of Turquoise Jewelry Art with the growing community on the web. So I continue to look out of my window for blue sky and think of my friends around the world enjoying their own piece of “Sky Stone”, Turquoise .

Here is my favorite new bracelet and I hope to soon have a favorite new movie, as The Lone Ranger is set to open July 3rd...WhooHoo! I am a huge fan of Johnny Depp in any role and Armie Hammer will be a very handsome partner in justice as well. I have read that Johnny Depp, as Tonto, will narrate the entire adventure.
It will be so interesting to see this western and it is my hope that it will be a tribute to the unique beauty of Native American Indian Culture. Armie Hammer has referred to his character as the "rock and roll Lone Ranger". Johnny Depp has stated emphatically that Tonto is not a stereotype or supporting character.
I think that I will send Johnny a  www.doubledeedeals.com Arrowhead necklaces like this:
And Armie needs a big beautiful ring. Anyway I am really looking forward to seeing The Lone Ranger on July 3rd, I will let you know what I think. Lots more beautiful Native American Jewelry on www.doubledeedeals.com and use coupon code " USA"  for free shipping in the US on all orders over $100.00

New Native American Jewelry

Welcome to spring finally!  And almost summer, Yea! I have spent a great deal of time on the reservations recently gathering Native American made jewelry, dream catchers and carved animal fetishes. I have been busy photographing and posting all the new items. Now I get to really admire them. I love the beautiful workmanship of these Native American works of art. By purchasing and wearing American Indian Treasures you are supporting this wonderful culture and heritage that is uniquely American. Sapphira Scott has brought us so many beautiful beaded earrings and necklaces. And Tony Garcia is the master at making those magnificent money clips for our Dad's, brothers and husbands. I have some fetish couples to bring wedding bliss wishes to new life partners. Oh my so many things I do go on, but a picture is worth a thousand words.....

Larimar Jewelry Pendant

Larimar Jewelry Pendant, Larimar & Sterling Silver

Larimar is a recently discovered ocean-blue gemstone, often mistaken for turquoise or jade, found in a remote mountain region in the Caribbean. High on an isolated mountain top, miners use only picks and shovels to work this unique Caribbean gemstone. The stone resembles the beautiful range of colors of the Caribbean waters. Always one-of-a-kind. Measures 5/8" wide, 1" long; total length 1-1/2". Weighs 7.4 gr./ 0.26 oz. Larimar has an extraordinary blue appearance similar to the color of the ocean in tropical areas. The stone itself is said to hold powerful healing energies, bringing balance and peace to its owner as it eases tension and stress. The setting is silver. Non-Indian made. * The necklace shown with the larimar pendant is not included but can be purchased in the necklace category listings. I have put them together for coloration and ideas for that complete look.

No Doubt pull 'Looking Hot' video, apologize for offending Native Americans

Did you catch the video for No Doubt’s new single “Looking Hot,” which premiered online on Friday? If you didn’t, it’s gotten harder to find. Shortly after the premiere, the band pulled the clip because of negative reactions to their use of Native American imagery.
In the video, Gwen Stefani dresses up in a fashion-Pocahontas head-dress and is saved from a pair of cowboys (band members Tom Dumont and Adrian Young) by bassist Tony Kanal (who also dresses up in stereotypical teepee-living garb). Though it seemed no more culturally insensitive than Stefani’s melange of Asian imagery during her solo period or No Doubt’s well-documented appropriation of Jamaican ska and reggae culture, it was deemed beyond the pale by YouTube commenters who bombarded the clip with negative comments.
On Saturday, the band issued a long apology on their website. “As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures,” they wrote. “Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history. Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are.”
The clip is still floating around the Internet, but has otherwise been scrubbed from this official series of tubes. What do you think? Did No Doubt do the right thing? More...
