Johnny Depp dresses up as Tonto to meet Navajo Nation president

Johnny Depp met with members of the Native American Navajo Nation on the set of The Lone Ranger Depp, who plays Tonto in the upcoming Western remake, happily posed for photos with Navajo president Ben Shelly and vice president Rex Lee Jim.

With the Monument Valley in Utah as a fitting backdrop, Depp is seen in the photo sporting dramatic black and white make-up, a head band, and a brightly coloured cloth wrapped around him. The actor has also been given long, braided hair.

The snap comes shortly after a first official image for the film was released, which shows Depp and his co-star, Mirror, Mirror's Armie Hammer, on horseback, in what is tipped to be an exciting reboot that stays true to the original.
